Mr Muir gave his presentation as Chairman of the EBHS Diploma exam board.
Giant of Hand Surgery
Mr Muir was honoured and humbled to be recognised as a “Giant of Hand Surgery” at the FESSH Opening Ceremony in Rotterdam on Wednesday 26 June. These were the first such awards and Mr Muir is therefore the first surgeon from the BSSH to be thus honoured.
Mr Muir recognises that many achievements are possible only with the support of the team and thanks all of the inspiring colleagues, senior and junior, that he has worked with and who have inspired him. He also thanks Mrs Muir for all her support over the years. He could not have done it without her.
Joint replacement in the hand
Mr Jump, Mr Muir, Mr Naqui and Mr Richards, all from the Salford Royal Hand and Plastic Surgery Department, were the organisers for the highly successful course on joint replacement in the hand held in Manchester Medical School on 6 June 2024. The course was heavily oversubscribed. Experienced surgeons attended from across the UK and from as far afield as Saudi Arabia. The teaching team are all experienced hand surgeons from the UK and from Holland, Poland and Spain.
EBHS Examination 2024
Mr Muir wishes all candidates every success in the online written MCQ examination on Friday 15 March.
For the first time we are using the exam system provided by Televic.
Anatomy teaching
On Saturday 10 March Mr Muir and his colleague Mr Tomos Richards joined a number of hand surgeons from across the North West in teaching anatomy and surgical approaches to a group of enthusiastic trainees in orthopaedic and in plastic surgery. The course was held at the University of Manchester.
BSSH Instructional Courses
Mr Muir chaired a session on distal radius fractures at the Instructional Courses in Manchester on 2 February 2024.
It was a privilege to be invited back as a former chairman of the courses.
Mr Muir congratulates Mr David Clark on his chairmanship and welcomed the new joint chairmen Mr Michael Lamyman and Mr Nick Riley who take over this year.
EBHS diploma examination
On Thursday and Friday 19 and 20 May 2021 the viva voce examinations for the above diploma will take place on line.
We wish everyone every success in their exams and look forward to congratulating the successful candidates.
Pulvertaft Hand Surgery Lecture Series
Mr Muir was greatly honoured to be invited to give a talk in this prestigious lecture series.
Along with his colleague Professor Ariane Herrick he gave a presentation on the surgical management of systemic sclerosis in the hand.

EBHS diploma exam
This year the written will be held on Friday 19 March. Mr Martin Richter (Bonn), the Chairman and Mr Lindsay Muir (co-chairman) are grateful to our IT colleagues at Asszisztencia for working so hard to allow this take place securely on line.
The oral exams will also be on line (via Zoom) after the success of last year’s diet.
