Instructional Course in Hand Surgery
Mr Muir was very grateful to the organising committee for the series 7 courses, of which he has the honour of being the chairman, and to the speakers who made the course such a success.
We had outstanding contributions from our international speakers, Professor Christian Dumontier from Guadeloupe, Professor Steven Hovius and Professor Paul Werker from the Netherlands and Professor Raja Sabapathy from Coimbatore in India. The standard of the lectures was outstanding.
We are looking forward to the June course which covers nerve disorders and brachial plexus disorders. Our international speakers are Professor Maurizio Calcagni, Professor Gursel Leblebcioglu, Dr Susan Mackinnon and Professor Christophe Oberlin.

Scaphoid chapter
In conjunction with Mr Brewster from Birmingham and Mr Pinder from Newcastle, Mr Muir has sent off the final draft of their section on Evidence based medicine: The Scaphoid. This is due to be published in the FESSH instructional course hand book to accompany the FESSH meeting in Budapest - Eurohand 2017.
New Spire Hospital Manchester
The old Spire Hospital in Whalley Range closed this week.
We are excited about moving to the new state of the art Spire Hospital in Didsbury. Mr Muir will look forward to treating patients in this high tech facility.

EBHS diploma exam
Co chairmen Martin Richter, Frederyk Verstreken and Lindsay Muir were glad to have the support of the examiners for the exam last weekend in Nice where we steeled ourselves to work hard despite the lovely sunshine out of doors.
Instructional Courses in Hand Surgery
The next course in the series, of which Mr Muir is the Chairman, will be held in Manchester on 3 and 4 February 2017. It will be preceded by a preparation course for the Hand Diploma exams, organised by Mr Anuj Mishra.

Dr Hughes, Professor Herrick and Mr Muir have contributed a chapter to a textbook on Critical Limb Ischaemia. This has just been published by Springer Verlag.
Hand surgery teaching day
Mr Naqui and Mr Muir will be hosting a teaching day in the Mayo building at Salford Royal on 6 September 2016. The programme includes talks, a presentation by Mr Donald Sammut and our own quiz, pitting orthopaedic surgeons against plastic surgeons.
Latest publication
Mr Muir has joined the rheumatology team of Dr Akram and Dr Hughes for this latest paper. Published in BMJ Case Reports it describes a case of gouty and infective tenosynovitis - a very rare problem. The paper is readily accessible online via this link to BMJ Case Reports.
