Scaphoid fractures

The results of the SWIFFT trial have now been published in the Lancet. The trial was masterminded by Professor Joe Dias from Leicester. Mr Muir and his team from Salford Royal contributed to the project.

The study examined whether surgery or plaster cast treatment give the best results in acute scaphoid fractures. Scaphoid fractures commonly affect young men and if they do not heal can lead to arthritis of the wrist. Careful treatment is therefore important.

The trial was picked up on the National Heath Executive publication Finger on the Pulse.
